Comparing Air Conditioners

When comparing air conditioners, pay close attention to the SEER, or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. It’s a measure of how efficient an air conditioner cools your home in the summer. The higher the SEER, the less energy you’ll use. Ellis Heating and Air Conditioning can help you find the right size air conditioner for your home.

Proper Size Matters

Bigger is not always better. Air conditioners remove the heat and humidity inside your home when it runs. In order to do that, it needs to run long enough. An oversized unit will cool the home too quickly, but not remove enough humidity. This will leave the home feeling damp and clammy. A properly sized air conditioner will be efficient, remove the humidity and heat, and leave the home feeling just right.  We will size your unit based on the size of the home, number of windows and other factors.

Is Your A/C Running Constantly?

Air conditioners are designed to run. Some 24/7. In most cases they will turn off and on periodically throughout the day but as the heat turns up, usually past 95 degrees, its normal for some to run for hours on end. By continuously running, they are removing heat and humidity from your home. Most units are designed to maintain an average temperature of 78 degrees on a 95 degree day. Beyond that, they may run nonstop until the sun and its heat go down in the evening.
